Sir Thomas Roe and Captain Hawkins visited India at the reign of Jahangir. Captain William Hawkins went to the court of Emperor Jahangir in 1608 to seek permission to open a factory at Surat. Thomas Roe was the first ambassador to visit India during the reign of Jahangir in 1615-1618. His objective was to obtain protection for the East India company’s factory at Surat.
