The city was ruled by The Chola king Musukundan and named after him as “Musukundapuri” in late 10th Century and was derived later as Musiri. There was a lot of export activity (Spices, Pearls, Medicinal Plants) From Tamil to Greece and Rome Musiri, Thondi, Puhar, Kumari, Konkai were the important Sea-ports.
